Before you start
Many people think that mastering a guitar is an impossible task, which takes many years. It’s partly true, but only if you want to own an instrument on a professional level.
More often than not, people want to learn to play guitar to play their favorite songs in company or just for their soul. In this case, learning will not take much effort or time: in two or three months you can easily learn the basic chords and ways to play.
Do not give up, even if you have already had a bad experience. Talent is only a tenth of success. Determination and regular practice are much more important.
What’s it gonna take
Desire. It’s even more important than the instrument itself.
It’s time for class. You can easily find it, too, if the desire is strong enough. Especially since you’ll have 30 minutes a day.
Training manuals. There is no problem with them at all: you can buy a tutorial in a bookstore, watch video lessons on YouTube, and find the chords on the Internet.
As you can see, nothing supernatural.
Choose and buy a guitar
Let’s assume that you have the desire and the time. We’ll just have to get a tool. They say a newbie can use any guitar, but he can’t. When the strings touch the palms and hit the fingers, and the guitar does not hold the line, no progress is out of the question.
A bad instrument will almost certainly beat the whole hunt to learn.
So it’s better to find a good guitar. At first you can borrow an instrument from a friend, and then, if it goes well and you like it, get your own. Not necessarily expensive and branded, the main thing – more or less qualitative.
There are two main types of acoustic guitars: classical and dreadnought (western). There is an opinion that novices are more suitable for classical guitars because of the wide neck and nylon strings. The first feature reduces the chance of accidentally hitting the strings with your fingers, because the distance between the strings is greater than the dreadnought. And the nylon strings themselves are softer than metal strings, so they do not get so much into the pads of your fingers and less corns.
On the other hand, if the performance of classical songs is not part of your plans, it is better to take the dreadnought immediately. Such a guitar sounds louder and more tinkling due to metal strings, and on a narrower neck it is more convenient to take chords. Again, playing on metal strings will make your fingers load up faster and there will be no more calluses.
As a compromise, you can take a dreadnought and replace the metal strings with nylon strings at least for the duration of training.
Going to the store for the guitar, take a friend who knows how to play: each instrument has many little things and a beginner may simply not notice them. Choose a guitar not only in appearance, but also in convenience. Pay attention to the ability to adjust the neck, the mechanism pins, strings.
